About the event

Students will explore Heyburn State Park, the oldest park in the Pacific Northwest. While hiking through and around the park, students will learn about the forest including tree and plant identification, habitat, ecosystems, and history of the park.

Kindergarten and First Grade (4 years to 6 years - Must be 5 by beginning of September)

Camps will start at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. each day.

Pick up and drop off point will be at 414 Coeur D'Alene Avenue, Suite E which is the base for Natural Connections Academy. Students will then be transported by shuttle to Heyburn State Park in Plummer, Idaho.

Campers should bring a backpack, snack, a bag lunch, and a water bottle. They should also bring sunscreen and bug repellent (if desired). Optional items in backpack: binoculars, compass, gloves (gardening gloves or something similar,  if they don't want their hands to get dirty).

Campers need to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and should dress in layers. The mornings will be cooler, with it warming up throughout the day so campers should have layers they can remove as their body temperature increases.  An example would be a t-shirt, sweatshirt, zip off pants or shorts under jeans (sweats are ok, but they might get caught on prickly plants or branches).

Clothing could include items such as a sun hat or baseball cap, sweatshirt, warmer jacket, a raincoat, mud boots, etc. Please, only closed toe shoes (no flip flops, or sandals). Hiking boots are not required, but campers should wear tennis shoes.

** Campers from St. Maries can meet us at park headquarters @ 9:45 a.m. for drop off and 2 p.m. for pick up instead of driving to CDA.
