A Resource for Families

Updated: Nov 8, 2021

Natural Connections Academy looks for ways to engage students outside all while teaching topics that are important for them to know. We hope that this will expand their explorations and curiosities of the world around them. But we also hope that parents can fuel their children’s love for the outside.

It’s as simple as taking a walk in a park, on a trail, or in your own backyard. This is just one way that parents can keep expanding their children’s admiration for the outside environment. Want to make it even more engaging? Make a bingo card with all the things you might see and help them also build their observation skills. You could even make it more interesting and have the Bingo pieces be items that they find around them. For example, little stones, pinecones, leaves, acorns, etc. (Just remember to try to put them back where you found them when they are done).

If you are looking for more ways to get your family engaged and involved in the outdoors, check out a resource from Tanglewood Hollow. They have a great publication that pulls from several different sources to create the Wild Family Guide Fall/Winter 2021. It includes links to sites with activities in areas like Wild Learning, Wild Home, Wild Play, and Wild Skills (includes the bingo idea).
